Mark and Brook publish an article on The Jakarta Post
September 22, 2020
Dr Mark Lovatt and Mr Brook Horowitz have published an opinion piece in the Jakarta Post on "Disrupting corruption in government purchases in ASEAN". It coincides with this afternoon's G20 Anti-Corruption Ministerial meeting.
In the article, Mark and Brook took up the theme of how the new technologies like AI and blockchain can have a significant impact on reducing and eradicating corruption from public procurement.
This is important because government purchases make up a significant part of the GDP, especially of middle income and developing countries. It is timely because COVID-19 has highlighted the great damage caused by corruption in emergency government purchases.
This article proposes the creation of a Technology Integrity Hub which would bring together technical expertise, market knowledge, government end-users and funding. It would be in a unique position to develop and deploy the new technologies in disrupting corruption in government purchasing.
